Doorway Circulation Spaces

When it comes to doorway circulation spaces there are four (4) requirements that must be provided at each doorway on a continuous accessible path of travel.

  • Clear Opening Width – this is the width between the door leaf face and the door jamb on the latch side.
  • Latch Side Clearance – this is clearance beside the doorway on the latch side of the door.
  • Length Clearance – this is the clearance ‘away’ from the doorway.
  • Hinge Side Clearance – This is the clearance on the hinge side of the door.

Here is an example of these doorway circulation spaces.
