We have just completed a larger review of pathway systems within a Local Government area. The review looked at the pathway systems within five (5) precincts. A very common issue that was identified was the kerbramp transitions. AS1428.1 – 2009 Figure 23 indicates that the transition between the kerbramp centreline and the roadway must be perpendicular. Meaning that it must be in a straight line. The below diagrams show this. The reasoning behind this requirement is to allow mobility devices to ‘hit’ the transition with wheels etc remaining on equal planes.
