Building Accessibility Audit

Understand how accessible your building really is. Our audits follow the complete user journey and give owners and facility teams a structured plan for improvement.

Access Solutions National (ASN) provides practical, accredited advice relating to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA), the National Construction Code (NCC) and the AS 1428 suite of Australian Standards. Our advice is clearly documented and focused on workable outcomes.

Know the building before planning the upgrades

Existing buildings contain layers of change: old layouts, later fit-outs, operational workarounds and maintenance constraints. A building accessibility audit creates a reliable baseline. It reveals where barriers occur, shows how they interact and helps you coordinate improvements with renewals, refurbishments and tenancy works.

What our building accessibility audit service covers

  • Site and arrival: We review property boundaries, parking and set-down, pedestrian approaches, wayfinding and principal entrances.
  • Movement and facilities: The audit considers doors, corridors, ramps, stairs, lifts, sanitary facilities, counters, seating and relevant shared areas.
  • Management opportunities: Not every improvement is construction. We also identify operational, maintenance, signage and furniture changes that may improve access.

How the service works

  • Prepare: We review building information and tailor the inspection checklist to the property.
  • Audit: The consultant follows representative user journeys and records findings on site.
  • Prioritise: Your report groups actions so they can feed into maintenance and capital planning.

Who we work with

Commercial offices, strata and residential common areas, retail centres, hotels, education facilities, community buildings and public-facing properties.

Frequently asked questions

Which parts of a building are audited?

The scope is tailored, but commonly includes arrival points, entrances, horizontal and vertical circulation, shared facilities, service areas, signage and paths to key destinations.

Will the audit disrupt building occupants?

Usually disruption is minimal. We coordinate access with your representative and can stage inspection of secure, sensitive or high-traffic areas.

Can you audit only part of a building?

Yes. The scope can focus on a tenancy, public zone, proposed project area or a specific route, provided the limitations are clear.

What happens after the audit?

Most clients use the report to address quick wins, brief designers, inform budgets or create a staged accessibility improvement program.
