Accessible (Disabled) Parking -AS 2890.6

Accessible Parking Bays – or as most people call them – “Disabled Parking Bays” is due to have some considerable changes to the requirements as set in the Australian Standard 2890.6. Previously the requirements were as shown below:

 

The new requirements for accessible parking bays are shown below:

 

Whilst in theory there is more space (3.2m – 4.8m) we feel that the new requirements will cause more people to complain about the “narrowness” of the accessible parking bays.

***UPDATE: – since this post the bay requirements have been implemented. There’s many complaints being made about this configuration. Please contact your local government and/or MP to raise your concerns.***
